All right all right all right.
I'm an uncle now. That's pretty good. And they went and named her after a Gears song, because they are big, big fans. If I was in a joking mood, I'd slay you all by saying they named her Yeah Yeah People Change Kline. But only about thirty of you would get it, and since only eight of you actually read the News page on goldenshoulders.com, I figure I'll let this one go.
For now.
We've settled in at the cozy Station To Station recording studio. This is the thing that has replaced Brighton Sound studio both in our hearts and in real life. It's like Brighton Sound, but much closer to where I live. So I like it better. That's how fickle I am with my love and affection. Anyhow, yes, the studio is great, working with Dana is always a genuine pleasure, and the songs are sounding like I think songs of this particular nature ought to sound. Lots of new sorts of songs on this record, a lot of sounds we haven't attempted before. Don't you see, I just want you to be happy?
Let me just state for the record that I wish the new... uh... record... was coming out nowish instead of futureish. I've managed to write a lot of hilariously pissy songs about the government as it is right now, and you can only imagine how antiquated those are going to sound when the record comes out and President Obama has fixed the world already. There's going to be rainbows and, I don't know, carmel corns everywhere, and the record will come out, and you'll all say, "what's this guy's problem, anyway?" I beg your forgiveness in advance. Also, we'll tour the states again when it comes out.
Which reminds me of a tale. Nevada City folk hero Utah Phillips has passed away somewhat recently, sadly, but I want to share with you a charming story his son Brendan told me a few years ago. Brendan and Utah were driving along together (their ultimate destination is not important to the story, so let's just assume it was their stockbroker's office) and listening to the first Golden Shoulders record, Let My Burden Be. I think Brendan had picked it up recently and was giving it a listen, and Utah sat quietly in the passenger seat, keeping his own council during the first few songs. Unable to take it anymore, Utah turns to his son, points to the stereo, and says, "what's this guy got to complain about?!"
Indeed, Utah. Indeed.
So, in conclusion, I'm an uncle now, the new studio is a good place to record songs, new record in the springtime presumably, President Obama will do a fine job, new US tour in the springtime presumably, and Utah Phillips, may he rest in peace, thought (correctly) that I'm a big whiny baby.
Be good.
Adam
